Summer, 2017
Dear Friend,
At the Gloucester Writers Center, we believe in the power of words – they can destroy walls and build bridges. The GWC provides a haven for writing, storytelling, dialogue and visioning. Our commitment to inclusion, without regard to tribe or station, remains central to our mission.
In the coming months, members of the Writing Workshop for Veterans will publish an anthology of their writing, prolific writer Anne Charters will deliver the Annual Charles Olson Lecture at the Cape Ann Museum, and our regular story telling event, Fish Tales, will present an evening with “Birth” as the theme. Stay tuned for news of upcoming classes, residencies, readings, podcasts, and community happenings.
Last year alone, we held over 60 public events – to go behind the scenes, see our Annual Report online at gloucesterwriters.org. You might see your picture among the many taken during the year!
We invite you to visit the newly opened Maud / Olson Library at 108 East Main Street. This unique collection houses over 4,000 books that influenced Gloucester poet Charles Olson. We recently received a grant from the Bruce J. Anderson Foundation to develop a curriculum for school children based on Olson’s poetry and life.
In April, the GWC turned seven years old. In lieu of a summer “gala” event, we ask you to consider a donation to support our programming for the coming months. Many donors are joining our Sustainers group by pledging a monthly donation through PayPal online at gloucesterwriters.org.
Please make your one time or monthly donation here.
Please be as generous as you can with your gift. Your support and participation are vital to keeping the GWC alive. As always, we welcome your comments and feedback.
Sincerely,
Annie Thomas and Henry Ferrini, co-directors
