The Gloucester Writers Center mission is to honor and celebrate Cape Ann’s rich literary legacy and to encourage writing and citizenship in the belief that all our voices count.
A note from co-founder Annie Thomas:
“I believe the scale, landscape, and commitment of many diverse people to this place make it very special. There are so many rich and varied stories here and all deserve to be heard. Since I first came here to live year around (over 45 years ago!) I have felt if we can’t have a place of real community here then where can we?
The community work of the GWC has shown me that people can come together from very different places in their lives when there is a bridge to creative expression. Writing provides that bridge. This is why we say that all voices count in our mission statement and why we won’t turn people away for lack of funds.
Ferrini talked a lot about there not being separation between life and art. Olson talked about individual eyes to see out of. At GWC the story is the queen and all of us players in the ongoing dream!”
