SUMMARY:Gay Walley: Reading
DESCRIPTION:The April 20 reading will be a reading of a play that is currently going up in Prague and hopefully Off Broadway in New York\, MAHLER AND FREUD IN HOLLAND. Audience participation to read might be required\, along with Thorpe Feidt and Peter Anastas who have kindly agreed to read Mahler and Freud. Charlee Bianchini will read Alma and there are some other surprise characters… The play centers around the meeting of Freud and Mahler – but it also is about what it is to be a genius\, what it is to be a genius married\, what was the future of music then\, and the future of art now.\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest

SUMMARY:Reading: 4 Local Poets
DESCRIPTION:Nathan Cohen is a violinist\, trumpeter\, and director of the Rockport Public Schools orchestra and chamber music program. He performs regularly with the band What Time Is It\, Mr. Fox?\, of which he is a founding member\, and freelances with other folk\, pop\, and classical ensembles around Boston and New York City. He loves the deliciousness of words\, but is reluctant to call himself a poet. He believes that poetry’s role is inseparable from the role of music. As he says\, “there is poetry under the surface of any good melody\, and melody under the surface of any good poem.” He is honored to share some of his work at The Writers Center.\n\nRuthanne (Rufus) Collinson has worked as a journalist\, editor\, bookkeeper and turkey farmer. She has lived in Gloucester since birth and Gloucester is the source and spirit of her poetry. As Gloucester’s poet laureate\, she is working with the schools to provide writing programs for Gloucester’s youth. Her poems have been published in various journals and in two collections by Folly Cove Books.\n\nRuth Maassen grew up in western Michigan and arrived on Cape Ann in 1980. In the years since\, she has had the pleasure of working with many local writers on her poetry and fiction. Her poems have been published in Inkwell\, Tar River Poetry\, and other journals\, and her Picking Raspberries was one of the Folly Cove chapbook series. As the poet laureate of Rockport\, she is honored to be asked to read a poem at Town Meeting every April.\n\nSage Walcott\, a former lawyer\, and his wife Linda live in Gloucester near Ravenswood Park and Freshwater Cove where he and his dog often find inspiration for his poetry. Since leaving the legal profession\, he has been teaching literature and creative writing at North Shore Community College.  He also serves on the Board of the Cape Ann Forum which\, since 9/11\, has been bringing distinguished lecturers to Gloucester.\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest

SUMMARY:Public Talk Michael Cerulli Billingsley
DESCRIPTION:Gone In One Blow: A 3500 year-old tsunami teaches us about the Atlantic today\nDuring the Middle Bronze Age\, according to sparse first-person-accounts\, myth and recent reconstructions\, a mega-tsunamiroared across Ireland from west to east… erasing overnight one of Irelands most vital cultures. This Flood\, and subsequent Iceland volcanic eruptions with devastating changes to climate\, ensured that Irelands The Golden Age would be forgotten. A distorted image of the Tuath Danann would hold imaginations for centuries to come. \nWriting a screenplay after almost ten years of new research in Ireland\, Canadian media artist and writer Michael Cerulli Billingsley ties those ancient events to a fragile equilibrium that we have come to expect will hold (at least since the great Lisbon earthquake of 1755). Yet poised to happen again\, a mega-tsunami would devastate Gloucester and other coastal communities. Using his insights from the times when such events were known to be part of life (and people were not so sure tomorrow would be identical to today)\, Billingsley will give an illustrated talk about options facing Gloucester\, and steps already underway to enhance our survival. \nMichael Cerulli Billingsley has a 30-year career of photography and video exhibition following work with Minor White in the 70s. He has written about the arts in a number of periodicals as well as published independent tabloids\, zines\, artist magazines and blogs. His writing ranges from technical articles and investigative reporting\, to song lyrics and poetry. \nHe is writing his second feature film. His first\, Prison Life\, saw limited screenings before prints were lost in a fire\, and had received Honorable Mention in N.E. Foundation for the Arts and BFVFs New England Film Festival. Billingsley keeps a composition/sound mastering studio in Vermont\, where he has lived most of his life \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest
