SUMMARY:Peggy Ramback/Anthony Martignetti
DESCRIPTION:Peggy Ramback and C. Anthony Martignetti read from their books: \nThe Lons \nStrange things are growing in Leonard Slinket’s watermelon field. They are as light and small as Wiffle balls\, turn smooth and warm\, dark\, yet luminous\, and their vines beat with a pulse. So begins The Lons – short for watermelons – as Slinket\, his younger carpenter-friend\, John Bigby\, and science teacher\, Lydia Rice\, set out to discover why the lons are here\, and what it is that they want\, or else\, says Leonard\, “all hell’s gonna break loose.” Who knows if the lons are good or bad? But there’s no doubting their power and their beauty\, their need for each other\, and the mystery of their existence. In this story of adventure\, loyalty\, love\, and connection\, we come to find that the lons are not much different from us. \n  \nBeloved Demons: Confessions of an Unquiet Mind  \nIn his follow-up to Lunatic Heroes\, Martignetti sheds all defenses to reveal the viscera of a mind shaped by the dark and confusing forces of his childhood. This collection of memoirs and essays focuses mainly on Martignetti’s adult years\, and features the pivotal characters of his ever-entertaining personal narrative. From the cascade of memories and emotions triggered by an accidental butterfly killing in “Cocoon Talk\,” to the homicidal impulses prompted by a visit to his boyhood home in “Sign\,” from the heartbreaking to the hilarious musings inspired by beloved pets in “Mochajava” and “Dog\,” and throughout the uncensored sexcapades of “Mad\,” “The Wild\,” and “Feast of the Hungry Ghost\,” Martignetti’s colloquial\, humorous\, and intimate style will keep you riveted\, crack you open\, enthrall and embrace you with an honesty normally reserved for not even the closest of friends. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest

SUMMARY:Fred Dillen Novel Launch: Beauty
DESCRIPTION:Local readers say:\n\n\n      brought Gloucester (OK\, Elizabeth Island) vividly to life\, and utterly captured the feel\, the look\, the smell\, the soul of the place\n     Carol is an undertaker who breathes life\n     I love BEAUTY because it’s a feminist\, fish thriller\n     I know nothing about the financial world\, but I feel I got a lively education in Acquisitions and Undertaking 101\n     I wish Carol were really here saving our waterfront\n     I can taste\, smell\, hear and see Gloucester\n     What fun\n\n\n\n\nThen the out-of-towners\, for what they’re worth:\n\nPublishers Weekly   —    a feel-good story with a dash of romance \n\n\n      Kirkus Review   —               After a career closing factories\, a woman reclaims her blue-collar roots\, revives a plant and saves a community. \n      Booklist:   —                         The fast-moving\, cutthroat world of corporate acquisitions and mergers proves a fascinating milieu for the story of one woman. Carol McLean\, 56\, is the “undertaker” who delivers the news that a company is dead for New York firm Baxter Blume\, and in that role\, she has become known as “the Beast.” After just one more burial – of Elizabeth’s Fish in coastal Massachusetts – she’s been promised her own company. But Baxter Blume reneges and fires her instead\, and Carol – impressed by the women who work the line at the fish factory – acts to make Elizabeth’s Fish her own to run. With her blue-collar background\, Carol relates to the people of Elizabeth Island\, particularly to fisherman Ezekiel “Easy” Parsons\, who tags her with the nickname “Beauty.” Dealing with a proposed zoning change is easy\, but then comes the potentially fatal injunction limiting the local fishing that’s essential to Carol’s plan. Dillen’s third novel (after Hero\, 1994\, and Fool\, 1999) is an absorbing story of one smart\, hardworking woman handling the “fat boys” of corporate leadership on their own turf\, with masterfully developed characters and\, as a bonus\, a poignant romance. \n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest

SUMMARY:Writing a 10-Minute Play Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Everyone has a story to tell. The 10-minute play format has all the elements of drama – plot\, characters\, dialogue & conflict. Learn how to put those elements into a short piece written specifically for the stage\, for actors\, and for an audience. Over the 4-week class\, participants will create a 10-minute play for a Festival to be performed live. If you are a writer\, stretch your skills into theatre and the art of writing art dialogue. If you are a dreamer\, put your story into the short-play format for all the world to see!\n\n\nM. Lynda Robinson has been in the theatre for 30+ years as an actor\, director\, producer\, teacher and playwright. She attended the Graduate School in Playwriting at B.U.\, has 3 published plays\, won numerous awards\, and her plays have been produced all over the country. She is a playwriting mentor at high schools for the Mass. Young Playwrights Program and the Huntington Theatre’s Young Voices Program. \n\n\n\n\nTuesdays  November 12\, 19\,  and 26 and December 3. \n7:00 – 9:30 pm \nPublic Staged Reading date TBD \nLimited to 10 participants.   $125 \n  \n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest
