DESCRIPTION:Spring 2014 \nThe Inner Voice and the Outer World  \nWhy Write? “To better understand the world we live inand the people who live in it.”  Brian Turner\, Iraq Veteran and Poet \nThe Gloucester Office of Veterans Services& The Gloucester Writers Centerannounce an eight-week writing workshopfor Veterans on Thursdays from 10:00 – 12:00March 20 through May 8\, 2014at the Office of Veterans Services\, 12 Emerson Avenue \, Gloucester. \nThe workshop will take place on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m.– 12:00 p.m. \nWe will focus on the writing process andexplore different forms\, such as poetry\, memoir\, essays\, reporting and stories in an informal\, supportive environment. \nFacilitator: Dorothy Shubow Nelson\, M.A. English\, \nBoard Member\, Gloucester Writers Center . \nWorkshop materials may include excerpts from the writings of men and women  published in current journals such as After Action Review;  and Consequence Magazine; a chapter from the novel The Yellow Birds\, by Iraq Veteran\, Kevin Powers; and post war writings from WWI\, WWII and the Vietnam War. \nDorothy Shubow Nelson\, formerly Senior Lecturer in English at UMass/Boston\, has taught writing and literature for 25 years. With the support of the Gloucester Writers Center she organized “ Readings and Conversations on War and Writing” featuring poetry and prose of North Shore Veterans\, William Joiner Center Faculty and Veterans\, and Consequence Magazine. Over the 4-week class\, participants will create a 10-minute play for a Festival to be performed live. If you are a writer\, stretch your skills into theatre and the art of writing art dialogue. Lynda Robinson has been in the theatre for 30+ years as an actor\, director\, producer\, teacher and playwright. She attended the Graduate School in Playwriting at B.U.\, has 3 published plays\, won numerous awards\, and her plays have been produced all over the country.
