SUMMARY:Screenwriting with Peter Almond
DESCRIPTION: \n\nOur second screenwriting workshop with film producer and writer  \nPeter Almond     \n\nStarts 7pm EST. Class starts on October 20th and runs  four consecutive Tuesdays.  \nWorkshop is limited to eight –  $150\n\n\n \nTo save your space email Eileen@Gloucesterwriters.org \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese 90-minute workshops will consider basic screenplay writing issues involving premise\, structure\, character and impact. Workshop participants can make themselves familiar with the basics of these issues in texts by Lajos Egri (The Art of Dramatic Writing) and Robert McKee (Story).        \n\n\nWorkshop participants will be expected to bring a screenplay-related project to work on during the four week session. The project can involve any of the following: A series of character sketches\, an outline\, a treatment\, a sequence of two or more consecutive scenes in a screenplay in progress.\n\nDuring the first session each workshop member will discuss their proposed project and agree to a goal for the project during the four week workshop period. Almond also discusses the place of the screenplay in the context of film production\, so that the screenplay is seen in relation to other film “departments” (costume\, production design\, cinematography\, etc.) whose craft and artistic work interprets the screenplay to guide its work in the total  production.\n\nFilm clips from produced films will be shown to illustrate key points in story and writing. In the first GWC screenwriting workshop\, Almond showed clips from films such as “All About Eve\,” “African Queen\,” “Chinatown\,” “Four Hundred Blows\,” “Grand Illusion\,” and others.\n\n\nIf available\, please submit your screenwriting project plans in writing in advance to palmond094@gmail.com \n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest

SUMMARY:Synesthesia and the Fusion of the Arts. Martin Ray and Stephen Bates.
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nA program of photographs\, haiku\, and clarinet compositions originating from Halibut Point. \n  \nFriday evening\, April 12\, 7:30 at the home of Stephen and Isabella Bates\, 2 Masconomo Street\, Manchester. Seating 60. Reservations required\, (978) 526-1443 or clarone@comcast.net.  Admission is free. Donate $20 at the door to the Gloucester Writers Center\, receive a signed copy of Martin Ray’s Quarry Scrolls\, photographs and haiku from Halibut Point. Presented with support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. \n  \nWe experience Synesthesia when one sense stimulates another\, a source of creative pleasure that can be heightened\, liberated\, and channeled in diverse ways. In the Fusion of the Arts we seek to enjoy a conversational interplay of forms and responses to underlying aesthetic awareness. \n  \nUpon retirement from his career as a Cape Ann landscape gardener\, Martin Ray brought his focus to the natural and social history of Halibut Point\, where he has composed nearly three hundred weekly blog essays. His recent book Quarry Scrolls\, which generated tonight’s program\, is drawn from his Halibut Point photographs and meditations in haiku. Martin has also published Cape Ann Narratives of Art in Life featuring contemporary creativity. \n  \nStephen Bates deepened his integration of the arts during his career as clarinetist for the Opera House Orchestra of the Kennedy Center\, Washington\, D.C.\, where he made paintings exploring the relationship between art and music\, particularly inspired by Kandinsky and Scriabin. Since moving to Manchester with his wife Isabella in 2009\, Stephen has increasingly applied his innovations to sculpture\, and to teaching silk painting at the Ten Pound Studio in Gloucester. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest

SUMMARY:Sigrid Olsen: My Life Redesigned
DESCRIPTION:In this visually rich memoir\, Sigrid Olsen traces her journey from art student entrepreneur to nationally known fashion designer\, and full circle back to her roots as an artist and spiritual seeker. \nAfter multiple major upheavals that left her gasping for air\, Sigrid did what any burned-out\, creatively compulsive\, former-hippie\, fashion executive would do…she packed up a bikini and some art supplies and went to a beach on the Eastern shore of Tulum\, Mexico. There she reconnected with a long dormant yoga practice and lost herself in meditation until the layers of stress peeled away and she could breathe again. This book tells her story in living color\, featuring her original artwork and offers inspiration for anyone seeking to find happiness\, balance and beauty in the world. \n  \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest

SUMMARY:Fish Tales: Road Trip!
DESCRIPTION:If you’re looking for something a little different to do with your Friday evening\, try attending a Fish Tales; a popular\, oral storytelling event\, hosted by the Gloucester Writers Center. For every new Fish Tales\, there is a chosen theme\, and local storytellers gather to tell their tales.
